Why Security is important at Home

Home computers with internet connections are vulnerable to a variety of security threats and these threats are interrelated .Bad practice could jeopardize the home computer security .
A miscreant can dupe a user into running harmful software - a worm ,virus ,Trojan Horse or some form of spyware that report back to the miscreant and as most home computers aren't secured at all, it's almost childs play for him to take direct control of the computer and run arbitrary software .
People should be educated about the dangers of installing software from dubious sources ,executing unsolicited email attachments.
Some security measures
1-Use strong password.
2-Limit Administrative privilages.
3-Install the latest software version and and patches.
4-Use good quality and regularly updated anti-virus program.
5-Make the file extention visible .
6-Configure e-mail clients so that they do not open attachments automatically.
7-Block suspicious files at the firewall or e-mail gateway.

Spoofing

Mail Spoofing is a technique of hiding the true identity and pretending to be somebody else in email.

IP Spoofing is a technique of hiding the true identity pretending to be somebody elses machine (e.g., pretending you are the trusted Intranet host when actually you are the untrusted Internet host).Practical implementation of this technique is rather difficult.

Web Spoofing is pretending to be somebody elses web site.
